Alex Dimakopoulos joined the Sanar Institute in February 2026, bringing nearly a decade of experience in the nonprofit and human services field. Alex has worked extensively in trauma-focused and advocacy-driven spaces, with a strong focus on mental health, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, bodily autonomy, and empowerment-based support.
Alex holds an undergraduate degree in Human Services from LaGuardia College and has an academic background in social work through the BSW program at Hunter College. Her professional experience includes case management, group facilitation, and advocacy training centered on self-empowerment, self-advocacy, and finding one’s voice after trauma. She is also a dedicated OCD advocate and is deeply committed to reducing stigma and expanding access to compassionate, trauma-conscious care.
Alex approaches her work through a justice-oriented, client-centered lens, prioritizing autonomy, dignity, and choice. She is especially passionate about supporting survivors in rebuilding self-esteem, reclaiming agency, and navigating systems of care and justice on their own terms.
Outside of work, Alex loves all things horror and thriller and enjoys games of every kind- from video games and board games to bowling and trivia. She is proudly competitive (“if I can win, count me in”), an enthusiastic home cook, and enjoys writing as a creative outlet. Alex is excited to be part of the Sanar team and honored to support and empower survivors everywhere.
